Going for gold: Sinks & taps

November 7, 2019
Categories: ,

There’s no doubt that gold is one of the metals of the moment in the home. In fact, if you use this colour in your kitchen, you’ll find this will instantly add warmth to your overall design. Of course, the options can be endless. But the key is to use this shade as an accent for a more sophisticated design. For example, consider matching a gold tap with a sink or even adding gold handles to your kitchen doors. These are some of the best ways in which to add shine and glamour to your hub of the home. So, follow our product manager Luke Shipway’s expert advice on how you can successfully add gold to your kitchen.

Going for gold

This example of a kitchen design showcases an abundance of gold, in particular, on the cabinet doors. However, you can add accents of this colour in the form of a gold tap and sink for a more versatile finish

Believe it or not, gold was once a favourite for the home in the 80s and 90s. However, today the latest trend is for a more modern take on this finish. I think this is all about toning down the colour, so you’re not confronted

with too much shine. These days, you can add gold taps and matching sinks to your hub of the home, without the worry it will look too bright. There may be a place for bling, but not in a fully functional, ultra stylish kitchen.

There really are a variety of ways in which you can add the colour gold to an elegant kitchen. Don’t overdo it and you’ll achieve a well-considered kitchen with gold accents. For me, gold taps and matching sinks are some of the best ways in which to introduce this warm metal into your hub of the home. After all, this area is often neglected as a purely functional space. So, why not make it so much more with a coloured tap and sink in a beautiful finish? If you choose gold, it will instantly warm up this area and make a beautiful feature in its own right.

Now, we first introduced a concept gold collection at kbb Birmingham in 2017 to gauge customer reaction. The feedback was great but we wanted to create a more glamorous, toned-down colour way. Good things come to those who wait, so we launched our new gold taps and sinks collection just last month. And I think we’ve come up with the perfect new range. At Caple, we’ve actually used the latest technology to achieve such a beautiful finish on our gold sinks and taps. In fact, we use a special coating as it’s highly resistant to tarnishing, corrosion and scratches.

What’s more, you’ll find this creates a brilliant finish for colour, which will not fade. This pure metal coating is called Physical Vapour Deposition (PVD) and it features on Rolex watches.

This technique actually vaporises solid metal in a high vacuum and deposits it on electronically conductive materials as a pure metal or alloy coating.

I’m a firm advocate of the metallics trend. In fact, for me, gold taps will always stand out as a strong style statement in a contemporary or traditional kitchen with a modern twist. This finish is so versatile, you’ll find your tap will stand out whether

you team it with light or dark worktops. Of course, you can also make your gold tap a winning combination with a matching sink. At Caple, we’ve already embraced this new trend as we have literally just launched a new collection of gold taps.

Just take a look at our new Ridley model. We designed this single-lever tap in solid stainless steel. However, we used our signature PVD technique to achieve this beautiful finish. You’ll find this tap needs a minimum of 0.5 bar pressure and it comes with a ceramic valve. In a beautiful swan neck design, this is a fantastic tap if you’re looking for a more traditional style. I find this model can work exceptionally well with more traditional kitchen doors, too, such as Shaker style.

If you’ve got your heart set on an ultra-modern kitchen, this gold tap should suit you perfectly. Our new Karns model in solid stainless-steel features the same, ultra-durable gold coating. However, this design features clean, minimal lines for a more contemporary effect. We chose an understated single lever with ceramic valve and this gold tap requires a minimum of 0.5 bar pressure.

If you choose a gold tap, you should consider a beautiful sink to match. And I think we’ve designed our new Mode collection to complement our gold taps perfectly. These new models are made with 1.2mm brushed stainless steel and our PVD gold finish. We’ve even designed them with a 90mm outlet for basket strainer waste, with the waste and overflow included. However, you can also pick an inset or under-mounted version, which provides you with a more versatile option, to suit whichever worktop you choose.

We have produced single bowl and one and a half bowl models, which means you can feel confident that there’s a sink size available just for you.
